Symi (Σύμη)
Stunningly beautiful harbour with with neo-classical mansions all around the surrounding hills. Easy to get to from Rhodes.
Rugged and rocky with pine woods inland. Most beaches accessible only by excursion boats. Gets crowded with day trippers from Rhodes but nice in the evenings with a good choice of tavernas. The photos are from 1994 and 2007 and a lot had changed between these two visits, not all for the better. Lots of ex-pat Brits living there.
