Messinia (Μεσσηνήα)
The western peninsula in the south of the Peloponese that includes Kalamata.
Very quiet unspoiled area. Lush and green with olive groves and a hilly interior. Lovely climate and great for walking. There is a large airport at Kalamata which has many international flights, including from the UK. Not many buses from the airport though. There are many interesting towns and villages around the coast so it is worth hiring a car to explore.
