Serifos (Σέριφος)
Plenty of unspoiled sandy beaches, a picturesque hilltop chora, a fascinating history, and only two and a half hours from Athens on the high speed ferry.
Serifos is one of our favourite Greek islands, and certainly the one we have been back to most often. It is part of the Western Cyclades chain of islands and used to be very much off the main tourist trail because it requires an overnight stay in Athens to get there, though this is now changing. It is very popular with Greeks in late July and August but relatively uncrowded the rest of the year and great for walking in June or September.
