One of the magnificant old mansions at Kambos, a large fertile plain 3km south of Chios Town that was settled by the Genoese in the 14th century.

underground aquifers fed from the nearby mountains. Most of the old mansions were destroyed in the massacre of 1822 and the earthquake of 1881.
