Milos (Μήλος)
An unusual island with fascinating history and geology, including an excellent mining museum.
Minerals that have been mined here include Obsidian (exported since around 6000BC), Perlite, Sulphur, Bentonite, Manganese, Pozzolana and Kaolin. It was of course also the place where the statue of Afrodite (known as the Venus do Milo) was discovered in 1820, now in the Louvre in Paris.
