Welcome
to Greek Images.
First, a bit of background about how the site came into being. In 1992 we were snorkelling in the clear, but cold, English Channel
at Durdle Door in Dorset when my wife commented how much nicer it would be to be doing this
somewhere a bit warmer. So, the following year we took a package holiday to Paros and
immediately fell in love with everything about Greece.
We have been back at least once a year
every year since then, mostly travelling independently, and very rarely returning to stay at the same
place more than once. So far we have visited over 30 locations, both on the islands
and the mainland, and we will be continuing our explorations over the coming years.
In September 2008 we will be heading to the western Cyclades, possibly taking in Siros, Sifnos and Serifos.
For more details watch this space over the coming months.
Thank you for visiting Greek Images.
If you enjoy what you see and would like me to add a link to your web site, please e-mail me with details.
I will generally be happy to do this on a reciprocal basis.
All existing slides have now been scanned and uploaded.
Over the next few months I will be making improvements to the site, starting with the home page.
In the meantime the "Featured Image" will be updated every couple of weeks, so please keep coming back to check.
Any comments on the photos
or the site in general would be welcome. To email me just click on "Contact" at the top right of this page.
Latest News:
Links page updated and expanded May 2008.
As a serious amateur photographer I have been keeping a record of our travels
with my trusty Minolta SLR and Fuji slide film. When I acquired a high resolution film scanner last year
it occured to me that it would now be easy, if somewhat time consuming, to get some of these
images into digital format and post them on the web. And so Greek Images
was born.
I didn't want to just show the traditional views of all villages and beaches - most of the islands have their own
web sites that show this sort of thing. Instead, I have tried to convey something of the essence of the different places that we have
visited, including images that are either informative, artistic, or entertaining.
All photographs are strictly copyright and may not be reproduced in any form without permission.
Sometime in the future it is hoped to provide the facility to purchase greetings cards and photographic prints on-line.
In the meantime, if you are interested, please contact me by email.
Independent Travelling in Greece:
The weather is usually at its best, ie not too hot, in June and September, when
places are rarely crowded, and you can always find accommodation when you get there.
The secret to getting the most out of your holiday is to look on the journey and transfers as all part of the Greek Island experience.
It is a state of mind and we always say our holiday starts as soon as we walk out of our front door in England. This attitude is summed up beautifully
in the the following poem 'Ithaca', by C P Cavafy. Translated by Rae Dalven..
